The Table VAT

This table is used to create all VAT variants required for billing purposes. Note that this table is used to create basic VAT data records. Details of a VAT record (i.e. a VAT rate depending on periods of validity) are defined in the dependent table VAT -> Values.

VATs are required for invoicing processes. In many instances, VAT rates differ depending on type of service, customer and country they are applied to. Thus, VATs defined in this table can be assigned at different stages in the application. The most important is the assignment of VATs to services in the master data module Contracts. This allows covering different VAT rates applicable to different types of services. Here are some examples:

In addition to the assignment of actual VAT variants, customers can be marked as VAT liable in the corresponding tables of the master data module Contracts.

During service price / fee calculation in the operational module Service, the corresponding VAT values are automatically taken into account.

The following data is used to define a VAT:

  • ID:*

Internal definition of the VAT (ID = Identifier). This ID is used as a reference code by the software and must be unique.

  • Article 1+2:

Description of the VAT as it is prescribed by official institutions (e.g. ministry of finance). Can be used on invoice printouts for your customers if necessary.

  • Tax Category:*

Tax category as defined for IATA SIS Interface, e.g. ZERO, EXEMPT, HIGHER, LOWER

  • Remark:

Freely definable comment on the VAT

The Table VAT -> Values

This dependent table is used to define the percentage value of a VAT's variant defined in the corresponding table.

In order to define the rate and validity period for a specific VAT variant, mark the VAT data record in the table VAT first and then switch to the dependent table Values. In addition to the definition of actual VAT rates, the most important function in this table is the management of periods of validity.

Here, the following data for the specific VAT can be edited:

  • VAT:

Name of the VAT as defined in the field ID* of the table VAT

  • Value:*

Rate of the VAT as a percentage

  • Valid From:*

As VAT rates might change over time, this field allows you to define a date when a VAT Value becomes effective. Note that values are valid until a new validity date is reached!

Please note: It is possible to create multiple entries for a VAT variant in order to record changes taking place at an appointed date. At the defined date, the new VAT value will automatically be taken into account.
